“I use drawing as a form of dialog with the world around me, this enables me to transmit objective aspects of my experience and combine them with emotional and internal states. Creative work for me is a way of preparation, a way to experience inspiration within me, to become a pure Self that can cause change. Its about transformation of the Self within the objective world.”~ Andre Harke

Andre Harke is a portrait artist creating non representational self portraits of idealised internal states. His self portraits depict a deeply personal symbol system combined with 20th century esoteric iconography. A profile view, full face view, and three-quarter view, are three common designations for his portraits, each referring to a particular orientation of the head of the individualised self that is depicted. Each image is either engaging directly with the viewer though its gaze or looking beyond towards an unknown.
